“Good design is good business”

— Thomas Watson Jr

My first experience with print design came at University when I created a printed version of my online portfolio. Through creating this I learnt all about printing colours, marks, bleeds and what makes a well-printed design. This was a different avenue for me and something I continued into my first working role.

Below is a display of my print work to date.

Miles Morgan Travel - Poster Design

During my time at Miles Morgan Travel, I have been responsible for numerous printed projects. I have created posters, postcards, brochure designs and novelty cheque designs. I create posters for the shop windows of all 19 shops owned by Miles Morgan Travel on a monthly basis.

Through doing this, I have learnt more and more about designing for print. From ensuring the designs include high-resolution images to building the design according to the bleed.

Due to my creative abilities, I was asked to re-design the current Miles Morgan Travel poster layout to freshen up the shop windows. Through trial and error, I discovered that the MMT customers interact better with larger images which are bright, colourful and include animals.

To incorporate this discovery into the design, I created two versions (landscape & portrait), including a larger image to draw into the poster’s information. The feedback from both staff and customers about the new design was very positive and I am proud to have had another positive impact on the company,

Personal Printed Portfolio

Creating my own personal printed portfolio was my first real experience with print design. I enjoyed creating a printed display of my online university portfolio, working with marks and bleeds as well as adding depth to colours to ensure they printed properly. Adding depth to the colour black was a vital aspect of my printed portfolio and something I had to ensure was right to get a good final print.

I learnt most of my InDesign skills through this project as well as print knowledge, which proved to be very useful in my first professional role.
