Photoshop - On Fire Effect

February, 2024

Continuing my enjoyment of playing with Photoshop every once in a while, I decided to try a on fire effect. Inspired by a tutorial, I turned an image I had taken of a Banana into the banana on fire you see here. This was a fun way to spend an hour on a Saturday afternoon and I look forward to creating cool on fire effects again in the future.

Below are a few supporting images highlighting the process of creating the final outcome of this image.

Photoshop (Beta) - More AI/Generative Fill

July, 2023

Once again fascinated by the abilities of Photoshops new AI Generative Fill feature, I wanted to see the results of asking it to create things.

What’s the first thing I thought of? A dog, in particular a dog I like and think is very cute (despite many disagreeing - poor dogs). I asked Generative Fill to create a Rottweiler dog.

The outcome surprised me. I was very impressed by the quality of the image created and after showing some other people, they thought it was a picture of a real dog. Despite the details on the tongue being slightly off, I was overall very impressed with the outcome.

Photoshop (Beta) - AI & Generative Fill

July, 2023

As you almost definitely have heard, AI is taking over!

My views on AI are most certainly mixed (with what I currently know) and am certainly on the fence regarding certain aspects. However, once I discovered that Adobe were bringing AI-powered ‘Generative Fill’ to Photoshop via Photoshop (Beta); I had to give it a try.

From left to right, I will discuss my process.

The far left image is the original image the rest were created from. As you can see it is a narrow image, I used the ‘Generative Fill’ to expand the image. I was instantly amazed by the ability of this feature just to turn a small image into a big one which makes sense. I think I will test the accuracy of this going forward. I then added the retro car and the reflective pool of water. Again, amazed by its ability to create realistic reflections as well as shadows as shown in the Chameleon image further up. To give a small-scale idea of how you can use ‘Generative Fill’ to create a larger-scale image, I expanded the image further and added a galaxy and spaceship.

My concluding thoughts…

While this is a Beta version and Adobe are yet to release the full version, the results from searches can vary in quality. For example, people e.g. a cowboy can be searched but often there are distorted facial features. This is something that will only improve with time. I find this feature very exciting and I am looking forward to what the future holds in this space.

Photoshop - Glow Effect

May, 2023

Every now and again I like to play with Photoshop. I saw a glow effect when looking at cool effects to create in Photoshop. Inspired by the tutorial, I created my own version. As a football fan, it was only going to be one image I created. However, unlike my tutorial, I used a Photoshop (Beta) ‘Generative Fill’ function to create the original forest-style background. Photoshop (Beta) is a very cool new AI feature coming to Photoshop. I will discuss this further in a later post.

The message I hoped to get across with this image is that no matter where you are or how dark it is, football (sport) is your shining light.
